Styles and Strengths
The Beehouse song-writing and production team consists currently of two members:
Philip
Lane (dance and progressive) Jane
Lane (pop styles and arrangement)
Phil has the monopoly over more recent and futuristic styles, and has
a passion for dance production and sampling, as well as an experimental
and responsive attitude to customer needs. Major influences include
the Beatles, Bjork, Kate Bush, and the array of producers who have developed
and transformed the dance world over the past 30 years. Phil works form
rhythm upwards to create the feel and drive the vocalist.
Jane bases song development on harmony and song
construction in the first instance, and will set harmonies to virtually
any melody line, working with the lyricist and singer to produce the
desired effect through harmony first. She draws on a wild and heady
mixture of resource and feels no compunction about mingling ideas from
Nellie Furtado with Chopin, David Bowie or Die Prinzen, elements of
Cockney Rebel and Radiohead along with Arabic, Greek and Turkish melody
lines or running Chopinesque structures into Morisette-style clarity.
Lyrics scan very tightly and rhymes are meticulously tailored.
Chris has a seriously involved commecial background in music, having
played alongside formere members of ELO in the reformation group "Orkestra".
He has a wealth of experience in production, and an instinctive ability
to move a song from its initial "skinny" format to well-rounded
classic ballad and pop, with sophisticated phrasing and multi-layered
interaction between the various lines. He derives his inspiration from
a wide range of artists, spanning the last fifty years, and creates
rich, classic melody/harmonies from often quite skimpy beginnings, specialising
in creating the chorus and "lift" elements instantly recognisable
in both progressive and traditional pop.
Most visiting artists work with at least two members of the team, quite
possibly all three. This makes for a more polished finished end product,
and a better, more varied working environment.
